“Most importantly, we are a community that cares and watches out for each other. Keep yourselves and your families safe. We are Anacortes and we will survive this and be stronger for it. Look for unexpected opportunities and gifts in these unprecedented times.
Be kind and take care,”
Mayor Laurie
There are many lessons to be learned from this outbreak of Covid-19. One is that our community is much larger than our own little community or neighborhood in which we live. That Global Warming and the environment affect us all globally, not just locally. It is not the responsibility of one country or community, politicians or governments – we are all responsible. We need to work together.
Sustainable living, economic viability, net-zero energy, preservation of parks and nature, healthy living, and being a strong community – all are essential to preserve the earth. In just the few months of this crisis look at how strong Mother Nature came back in clearing the air in China, or how the canals in Venice are once again a vibrant source of nature. Mother Nature is telling, no showing us, what she is capable of and we should listen and show respect to her, to each other, to our communities.
There are many lessons to be learned during this time. Listen and learn from it.
Finally, I would like to encourage all of you to join me in demonstrating kindness in all things during this time.
“This moment offers our society the gift of transformation to a more equitable, sustainable, and just society. Rather than fear the coming disruption, perhaps take heart in knowing that we are a community first and foremost and that collectively we can create massive and positive change in behavior when motivated to do so.”
