Living in the rainy Pacific Northwest, surrounded by water, we may tend to forget that we are still susceptible to water droughts. Water is one of our most precious resources and being water wise today we can preserve our future.
This is not something that has just started to be an issue, it is a subject that has been around for decades.
“Severe droughts in the 1970s, 1980s and early 2000s helped spur ongoing water conservation efforts, and much of the West has been flirting with drought for a decade and a half.” You can read more in the 2015 article, A Crystal Ball for the Pacific Northwest’s Climate with Kathie Dello, the deputy director of Oregon’s climate services.
We tend to take for granted that water will always be there, but that is not the case for a lot of areas, including the Pacific Northwest. You can learn more in this How to be waterwise… Water for our future PDF article put out by the Department of Environment and Resource Management in Australia.
