I’ll start by saying: I am not an avid e-commerce person. SHOPPING LOCALLY IS MY FOCUS!
Yet, sometimes I have to purchase online, or mail items to others.
So, here I stand in the Mailbox Store looking at, and asking, how to package my items in the most friendly, environmental way. What a trip! Needless to say, this was another eye opener for me on considerations and possibilities.
By now you’ve likely noticed that my curious mind is a real adventure! And it’s a lot of fun for me, and I hope for you.
For this read (and my curious mind) I am going to take a dive into some of the developing packaging and shipping opportunities we have today – some of which you may already be aware of, but some of which may be new to all of us.
Opting for carbon neutral delivery is a plus and makes a difference. Let’s step up that portion with the carrier of your choice and get on their program. Asking questions about carbon neutral delivery will quantify where that carrier’s commitment to stewardship is toward a healthier, sustainable environment.
Did you know that shipping waste has reached about 30 percent of our annual waste? There is a new, and very positive, tipping point with consumer awareness; it’s no longer about how beautiful the packaging is, it’s how the consumer feels when sorting it into the recycle bin.
Large and small businesses are stepping up as well, as consumers take the lead and push back on the role each (consumer & business) plays in sustainable packaging opportunities.
There are many simple solutions that are so intriguing!
Another interesting piece for me is that the U.S. hit a record 44% in e-commerce growth in 2020. As consumers and stewards in creating and living in HEALTHY HOME and WELLNESS, we can look for and take action in creating a sustainable and healthy environment and make e-commerce decisions that support us in living in a HEALTHY HOME.
As always, let’s start a conversation!
