Update on the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) in Washington State

• $64M in program funds that must be used for a bundle of measures that when combined reduce energy usage by at least 20%.
• An Energy Audit is required to determine which bundle of measures are required to meet the target savings; a portion of rebate may be used to pay for audit. Opportunity Council was approved by the Washington State Department of Commerce to be part of the Qualified Contractor Network for performing Energy Audits.

HARP – another part of the Inflation Reduction Act –  is a rebate for high efficiency electric equipment and appliances.

QUALIFICATIONS for HOMES and HARP 

• Income under 150% of Area Median Income.
• Rebates are tiered by income and by the amount of energy saved.
• HOMES Low income households may receive up to 100% of a $20k rebate for an energy reduction of at least 35% or $15K for 20%.
• HARP may receive up to $14k and are determined by income; must be approved before starting a project or buying goods; apply through a statewide third party.
• Multi Family Dwellings: primarily serving low income households.
• ** There are other specific restrictions that apply to Multi Family dwellings.

Rewire America is also a helpful website, through their Save on Better Appliances campaign, providing a list of currently available tax credits and rebates on appliances. Many of these expire at the end of the year. If you are thinking of starting a project do not wait.
