Technology has stepped up in the world of heat pumps, allowing us to lower our utility cost while also providing a lighter footprint on the environment. As I’ve been learning more about heat pumps and their technology, I thought it would be helpful to share with you what I’ve learned (and am still learning!).
In their simplest form, heat pumps transfer or move heat from one place to another. They absorb the heat energy from the outside air (even in cold temperatures) and transfer it to the indoor air. This is true in reverse when a heat pump is in air conditioning mode; it moves the hot inside air to the outside.
Heat Pumps, regardless of mode, blow air over evaporator coils, transferring heat energy or cool energy from the air to a refrigerant. The heat energy is circulated in the refrigerant to a condenser coil, where it is released as a fan blows air across the coil. Through this process the warm or cool air is pumped from one place to another. Simple and yet very complex for my mind to grasp!
Continuing my exploration of heat pumps, I’ve learned that heat pumps use less energy without compromising performance, and that can lower our utility costs and provide an environmentally friendly solution to heating/cooling.
Demand is increasing and there are many opportunities to look at options in systems: from air source, to ground source, to ductless systems, with new technology in the works as well.
There are pros and cons on which system will provide the most benefit for your healthy home and your healthy lifestyle. When you upgrade to new heating/cooling technology you’re provide a footprint for lowering your health care costs, lowering the wear and tear on your mechanicals, offering lower utility cost and adding in a heightened level of comfort.
Additionally, it can increase the value of your home right away, and will benefit you down the road when it’s time to sell.
I look forward to visiting with you about the many ways to increase the value of your home, while increasing your daily comfort with solutions that will also lighten your environmental footprint.
Here’s to healthy living in healthy homes!
